- Major and Chromatic scales, slurred and tongued at a moderate tempo
- A slow and a fast etude selected from the following (comparable material may be substituted):
Flute - Andersen, op. 33
Oboe - Barret Oboe Method or Ferling Studies
Clarinet - Rose Etudes
Bassoon - Weissenborn Studies
Saxophone - Ferling 48 Famous Studies
- Sight reading
- Prospective students are encouraged to prepare an optional solo of their choice. Some suggested solo literature:
Flute: Chaminade, Concertino; Mozart, Concertos; Handel, Sonatas
Oboe: Marcello, Concerto in C minor; Mozart, Concerto in C Major; Handel, C minor or G minor Sonatas; Telemann, A minor Sonata
Clarinet: Mozart, Concerto; Brahms, Sonatas; von Weber, Concertino
Bassoon: Mozart, Concerto; Galliard, Sonatas
Saxophone: Creston, Sonata (or comparable solo piece). Jazz improvisational material is recommended
